Why did I train to be a therapeutic counsellor?
This is my first blog article and I thought that it might be useful to give you some background on who I am and why I trained as a therapeutic counsellor.
I have had a varied career initially as a scientist, then I got involved in sales and marketing. Over time I realised what was driving my work, it was working with people. I found that I had a natural desire to want to come alongside people and help them in some way.
After a while I realised that the work that I was doing didn’t quite fulfill me and so I set up my own business initially as a freelance marketeer and then trained as a life coach and the deeper I got into helping people to find strategies for positive change, I realised that I wanted to help my clients at a deeper level and so over a period of six years, I trained to be a therapeutic counsellor, I worked on placement at Cruse Bereavement Care whilst I supported my neurodiverse clients with strategy coaching which I still also do. Over this period, and importantly, I engaged in therapeutic counselling myself. How could I help my clients understand themselves if I hadn’t done the development work on myself too?

My accreditation details. It is important that if you engage in therapeutic counselling then you know that you are working with a counsellor that works within an ethical framework that protects you but also ensures that the counsellor works to an agreed standard and who undergoes regular supervision.
My membership of the National Counselling Society gives my clients assurance of my ability to practice as a therapeutic counsellor working to a national standard. I have displayed my certificate here, but you can find out more by visiting my NCS page by clicking here.
